Henry Ford

Henry Ford was born on July 30th 1863 on a farm in Greenfield Township, Michigan. He was married to Clara Jane Bryant in 1888, they had one child, Edsel Ford. Henry ford developed assembly line manufacturing and created the first affordable automobile that many middle class Americans could afford. Henry and his family earned money by farming and running a saw mill until 1891, when he became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company and was promoted chief engineer in 1893.

On August 5th 1899, Henry resigned from the Edison Company and founded the Detroit Automobile Company that eventually failed in 1901. After his failure, stockholders in the Detroit automobile company created the Henry Ford Motor Company and made Henry Ford chief engineer. Henry soon after resigned from the company after William H. Leland brought in a consultant. The company changed its name to Cadillac Motor Company. Henry soon after, teamed up with an old friend to produce the 80+ horsepower racer “999.” The racer was driven by Barney Oldfield who ended up winning the race.

Henry Ford wrote, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you’re right.” In this quote, I think that Henry Ford means that if you think you can’t do something, you won’t be motivated enough to even try because you believe you can’t. But if you believe that you can achieve your goals, then you will pursue it and eventually achieve it. Henry ford died on April 7th 1947, in Fair Lane, Dearborn, Michigan.
